Plant Pathology Dept win the Participation Award

On November 11th 2016, students, staff and professors from various CAES Departments came together for the 5th Annual Plant & Soil Interdisciplinary Symposium.  Our very own Amelia Lovelace was elected to represent the Plant Pathology Department as a member of the student planning committee for this event.  The Symposium consisted of two student competitions between the Masters and PhD students of the Plant Pathology, Crop and Soil Sciences, Horticulture, and Plant Breeding, Genomes & Genomics Departments.  Students competed for cash prizes of up to $150 so needless to say there were a lot of great presentations. Brian Kvitko served as one of the judges for the Masters presentation session. Departments also competed for the coveted Participation Award.  Plant Pathology had previously won the award and golden leaf trophy at last year’s symposium.

With a catered lunch from Chipotle followed by a riveting presentation by the invited speaker and Director of the State Botanical Garden of Georgia,Wilf Nicholls, over 75 people attended the event!  The awards were presented at the social to conclude the Symposium.  The Plant Pathology Department took home two awards.  Frances Brown won second place in the Masters student competition and the Department as a whole won the Participation award for a second year in a row!
